Human Hair Extensions August 12th, 2010

If you decide to go in for a hair extension application, it is necessary that you know something about the hair that will be used in the process. The reason is that different types of hair react differently once they are inserted. Human Hair Extensions, for instance, stay looking shiny and natural for a much longer period of time than synthetic extensions do. To understand the reason why, we will have to explain the biological composition of hair to you. Once we do, you will understand why Human Hair Extensions will leave you looking younger and better groomed.

Human hair has an outer layer attached to each strand which is called the cuticle. This is composed of complex interlocking scales and it protects against water loss. All the cuticles on a woman’s head are aligned in the same direction and this is what prevents the hair from getting tangled and matted. Human Hair Extensions which retain these cuticles will therefore not tangle up and will look far more natural. Also, because the cuticles help retain water, Human Hair Extensions will look shiny as light reflects from their glossy surface.

You have to take care when choosing an extensionist to find one who will actually give you Human Hair Extensions. He may pass on inferior quality hair during the extension process claiming that he is giving you Human hair Extensions. During the application, you are not likely to be able to tell the difference. However, it will not take you long to find out that you have been duped.

From the time that the Hair Extension process became popular, there has been a debate as to which type of hair is more suitable for use. One can either go in for Human Hair or synthetic hair and it is a truly difficult choice to make. In the past, it was easier to choose because the hair made of synthetic fiber looked nowhere near as good as the natural variety. One could tell at a glance that it was artificial hair and people generally avoided its use when carrying out an extension process. But the scenario has changed. Nowadays, fibers have been developed which closely resemble the real thing and, because it is cheaper, people have been veering more towards synthetic hair.

But is cost the only criterion that should be taken into account? After all, it is quite an important step that is being taken considering that a person is going in for a makeover that could change totally the way she looks. And in a situation like that, the amount of money you spend becomes secondary. You want to look the best you can and for as long as possible. So the quality of the hair is the prime factor and there, in our opinion, Human Hair scores over the synthetic variety. In the following paragraphs, we will tell you why.

Human Hair retains the cuticle which is present on the hair shaft while this is not there in synthetic hair. The cuticle is what surrounds the shaft and it is made up of overlapping layers of long cells. They exist on the surface of the head and are aligned in the same direction. The Remy variety of Human Hair ensures that the cuticles are present when the hair is cut and that is why the alignment of this type of hair is so close to the real hair a woman has on her head. The alignment is probably the most important part of the extension process because it prevents the hair from getting tangled. And that is why we are recommending Human Hair over synthetic hair because the latter tangles up far more easily as it do not have the cuticles on it. The effect of the tangling is twofold. One, it looks brittle, dry and “roughed up”. And secondly, tangled hair tends to deteriorate more quickly. And finally, the cuticle locks in essential moisture and protects the hair from the elements. This is another reason why hair with cuticle on it looks shiny as light reflects from its glossy surface.

We’ve tried to give you a balanced view of the two types of hair you can choose from. Human Hair is more expensive but, as we have said, it looks more natural when it goes through the process of extension. You will have to take the call depending on what you consider more important from your point of view. Here’s hoping you make a wise choice.

Human Hair Extensions August 12th, 2010

There comes a time in the lives of all women when they realize that their hair, the crowning glory of their former years, has slowly started thinning. Some women accept this change with stoicism and reconcile themselves to the fact that they are no longer turning heads. But others take recourse to a course of hair extension in order to preserve their youthful looks. This basically involves attaching Human Hair or synthetic hair to a person’s head so that she appears to be blessed with a thicker and fuller growth than is actually the case. In most cases, hair made out of synthetic fibers is cheaper than Human hair Extensions, but ladies looking for high quality stuff which can’t be distinguished from their own mane prefer Human Hair Extensions as that is what looks the most natural.
There are other advantages also in choosing Human Hair Extensions. With these, you are not restricted to one particular color or one particular style as you are with the synthetic variety. You can wash your Human hair Extensions just like your own hair, and color them and style them also. And when you are getting your extensions done, you can choose Human Hair Extensions which match the color and texture of your hair exactly as there are a wide variety of Human Hair Extensions which are available. There is also a practical aspect of this application which is that Human Hair Extensions last three times longer than the other variety. This is largely because synthetic hair does not possess the cuticles which Human Hair Extensions do so that they tangle more easily and lose their natural sheen.
So if natural looking hair is what you are looking for, Human Hair Extensions are your best bet.

Facts about hair used for extensions August 12th, 2010

If you have decided to go in for a hair extension, it is necessary that you know something about the hair that will be used in the process. The reason is that different types of hair react differently once they are inserted into extensions and you’d be well advised to know about these rea    ctions. You can basically make use of either human hair or synthetic hair. The latter is a cheaper alternative but it doesn’t look as natural as human hair, and especially Remy Human Hair, does. To explain the reason, we have to take you into the biological composition of hair.

A woman’s head (and a man’s for that matter) is filled with strands of hair which has three distinct layers: the Cuticle, Cortex and Medulla. For our purpose, it is the Cuticle which we will concentrate on as that is what affects the quality of hair inserted into an extension. The Cuticle protects against water loss and is composed of complex interlocking scales, which resemble fish scales. It falls in a distinct pattern on each strand of hair and gets altered if the hair is colored, bleached or conditioned. A very important fact to note is that all the cuticles are aligned in the same direction and this is what prevents the hair from getting tangled and matted.

The great advantage of Remy Hair is that it retains these cuticles as the hair is cut directly off a person’s head. So, as in “living” hair, Remy hair will not tangle up. Also, as we said before, the cuticle protects against water loss so Remy hair will look shiny, unlike cuticle-less hair, as light reflects from their glossy surface. You must remember though that because of the method of collection, Remy hair is in short supply and consequently, quite expensive. But it is worth it as the extended hair will look and feel real.

You can also use human hair which is non-Remy. Basically, this is hair which has been collected from brushes or from off the floor. They do not contain the cuticles and so are not much better than synthetic hair. Naturally, they are far less expensive than Remy hair and are far more easily available.

Finally, you can use synthetic hair which is made from man-made fibers which try to copy the look and feel of human hair. It is the least desirable alternative as not only does it not have the sheen of Remy hair but it also moves differently and so doesn’t blend perfectly with your own hair.

It is important that you choose a salon or an extensionist who is trustworthy and won’t use spurious stuff during the extension process, because you are not likely to be able to tell the difference when it’s being carried out. However, if it’s not Remy Hair that has been used, it will not take you all that long to realize that you have been duped.
